Boudoir for Couples

Boudoir Photoshoots for Couples with Jules from the Black Book Sessions

The concept of the boudoir image is the use of implied nudity rather than actual nakedness or eroticism and the art of the photographer is in creating an image which is sensual without being excessively graphic. A quick glance through the portfolios of some of the less talented photographers around illustrates how easy it is to overlook this subtlety and cross the line into basic tasteless nudity?

Consequently, a classic boudoir image takes a certain talent and this is something you should consider. But what if you want to push the boundaries a little further and desire something a little edgier than the norm?

Take Your Time

Boudoir Portrait feayuring a male and female coupleThis is where it becomes even more important to take your time and look at the work of the various photographers on the scene. Simply picking a boudoir photographer because they advertise the most or are a well known brand may seem to be the safe option, but this is hardly going to get a result which really stands-out?

One of the few people in the business who seem able to create great images without resorting to clichés is Jules Fortune of The Black Book Sessions in Greater Manchester. Jules has witnessed a recent surge in demand for her type of edgy and erotic imagery and most particularly with her Couples Boudoir.

Jules says: “I am getting more and more enquires from couples who desire tasteful images, of themselves in sensual, erotic poses. Some clients desire more drama in there portraiture photography, they want to be photographed in a way which expresses their togetherness and their passion!”

Jules adds: “Couples photo shoots and, in fact all my Boudoir photo shoots don’t have to be nude or even semi naked to be sensual or sexy. The most sensual image can be fully clothed; it’s all in the eyes and the expression. A good photographer will get that look from the client, even without them knowing it.”

Of course, this form of portraiture isn’t just restricted to straight partners. With some of Jules’ clients being same sex couples, Jules seems to have made her own niche in this type of work with her award winning imagery really standing out on it’s own.

Boudoir for Couples?

“Regarding same sex couples shoots I have photographed some wild shoots with lots of nudity and sensual poses, and I have also photographed more low key but very loving, clothed shoots for couples who wanted to have some post wedding images. It really depends on what the clients want for themselves?”

Dress Up

Another edge that Boudoir Photographers and Jules at Black Book Sessions, can offer couples is the chance to dress up in a period style, 20’s 40’s, 50’s, whatever. If you are the kind of couple who loves the themed era look, then where are you going to get a great portrait that totally captures your style and image? In a setting that has the look and feel to compliment your style and individuality.

Adventure

So if you have an adventurous side or harbour a few visual fantasies there is definitely an outlet for this type of imagery. The results can be provocative and visually stunning if done correctly.  The advice here then would be to explore the boundaries of your imagination but ensure that your photographer both understands the message you want to get over and more importantly that he or she is capable of conveying this message in the final image?
